The University of Kentucky announced the Wildcats will open the season against Eastern Michigan under the lights on Thursday night, kicking off the 2020 season Sept. 3 on the SEC Network.

The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 5, conflicting with the postponed 146th running of the Kentucky Derby.

This will be the first Thursday night football game since the Wildcats hosted Auburn in 2015, a game that resulted in a 30-27 UK loss. Kentucky has played eight Thursday night games in the modern era but only once in the opener, defeating Western Kentucky 14-3 in Nashville to open the 2011 season.

This year’s opener will mean even more for Terry Wilson. The UK quarterback will begin his 2020 campaign against Eastern Michigan, the team that derailed his junior season. Even without Wilson the Wildcats won 38-17 to improve to 2-0 in the all-time series.
