For nearly 4 months, the coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc all over the world. Alarmingly, it is showing no signs of stopping, even as sports players attempt to resume their normal lives and get back to the grind. Last year’s NFC Champions, the San Francisco 49ers, began organizing workouts in Nashville ahead of the 2020 NFL season. However, these have been scuppered as a player has reportedly tested positive.
San Francisco 49ers star tests positive for COVID-19
As per NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo, one player tested positive. Due to this, the training sessions have stopped.
His tweet said, “One of the 49ers players who was working out in Nashville tested positive for COVID, sources tell me and (RapSheet). The rest of the group is getting tested and trying to figure out how and when they can travel. Some guys live there so they’ll just hunker down.”

As per Tom Pelissero, the players at Nashville are all the quarterbacks, offensive, and skill players. These will no doubt include lead QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Other players who would have been part of the workout are Deebo Samuel and Richie James Jr. The duo have suffered injuries and will be out for a few months.
Pelissero tweeted, “I’m told the entire group — which includes all the #49ers QBs and many other skill players — got tested this morning and are awaiting results. Players who flew into Nashville are grounded for now.”

Meanwhile, the Super Bowl LIV runners-up refused to divulge any information on the player and released a statement to NBC Bay Area. As per a 49ers reporter, it read…
Statement from #49ers:
“Federal and state privacy laws prohibit our organization from commenting on the personal health of our employees.”

These aren’t the first coronavirus cases to hit NFL players. Earlier this week, Dallas Cowboys Ezekiel Elliott too tested positive. Whilst the severity remains unknown, it does present worry for the 32 teams in the NFL who are trying to prepare for a full season which kicks off in September.
49ers fans will certainly be keeping their fingers crossed that the unnamed player recovers. Furthermore, they will hope no one else gets infected.
Do you think the latest spate of positive cases will have an effect on the 2020 NFL season?
